Whether you’ve just had new tires put on or your tires have seen a few thousand miles, regular tire service and maintenance can help extend the life of your tires. Our tire services include:

Tire Rotation Service

The front and rear axles on your vehicle wear tires at different rates. So, regular tire rotation can help significantly maximize the life of your tires. This service also allows our tire experts to inspect your tires for any other issues that may affect performance.

Tire rotation is one of the easiest ways to ensure that your vehicle runs safely and more efficiently. Overly worn tires can make your vehicle less stable and more dangerous to drive, and may also result in increased fuel consumption.

There are several significant benefits of regular tire rotations, including:

      Even tire tread wear

      Prevention of tread cupping

      Improved vehicle handling

Protection of other vehicle components (especially within the suspension and brake system)

Because they are more susceptible to uneven tread wear, we recommend that new tires are rotated at the 5,000-mile mark. For older tires, you should follow a tire rotation schedule of every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. This will ensure that all of your tires wear more evenly and last longer.

A good habit to get into is to have your tires inspected and rotated at the same time as your regular oil and filter change.

The technicians at your nearest McSpadden's Tire & Automotive location can quickly and properly rotate your tires and let you know if any of them are no longer roadworthy. If it’s time to replace any tires, we’ll help you select the best option for a replacement.

Tire Balancing Service

If you have weight imbalances in your wheels, your vehicle may vibrate and the tire tread will wear faster. Maintaining an even distribution of weight around each tire/wheel assembly will ensure that your vehicle rides smoothly and will help extend the life of your tires.

Our wheel balancing service includes removing the wheel/tire units, mounting them on specialized equipment, correcting any imbalances, and remounting the wheels/tires.

The most common indicators that you have one or more tire/wheel assemblies out of balance are:

Vibrations in your steering wheel, seat, or floorboard

      Uneven tire wear

Cupped wear pattern on your tires

In most cases, a vibration in your steering wheel means that a front tire is out of balance, while seat vibrations usually mean a rear-wheel imbalance.

Wheel/Tire Alignment Service

If your vehicle drives roughly, feels a little “off”, or is pulling to one side while you’re driving, it may just need a wheel alignment. There are several different alignment angles. Some of them impact tire wear, while others cause a pull.

If your vehicle is out of alignment, it may exhibit one or more symptoms, including:

      Uneven and/or increased tire wear

Poor handling when cornering or braking

Pulling to one side or another while driving

      Crooked steering wheel

The three main angles involved in your vehicle’s wheel alignment are:

The camber is described as the outward or inward angle of the tire when viewed from the front. For example, the Leaning Tower of Pisa exhibits a negative camber. If the camber angle is significantly outside of manufacturer specifications, the vehicle will sometimes pull to one side. This will definitely cause premature tire edge wear because one side of the tire tread is making more contact with the road than the other side.

The caster angle is the angle of the tire towards the front or rear when viewed from the side of the vehicle. When this angle is out of specification, it won’t usually cause adverse tire wear, but will definitely cause the vehicle to pull.

The toe angle is the angle that is most often in need of adjustment. This angle is the inward or outward direction of the tires when viewed from above. Misalignment of this angle will not cause a pull but will cause adverse tire wear. The toe angle is also the easiest one to “knock out” of specification by hitting a curb, pothole, or other objects.

There is no set service schedule for vehicle alignments. So, exactly when your vehicle needs servicing will largely depend on how and where you drive. It is recommended to have the alignment checked roughly every 6,000 miles (or every other oil change, depending on your vehicle’s service interval). You should also have your alignment checked if you have recently hit something in the road. When that happens, it can throw off your vehicle’s alignment just as much as if you were in an accident.

Regular alignment checks have several valuable benefits, including:

      Maintaining vehicle handling and safety

Extending the life of your tires

      Improving fuel economy

Preventing damage to other vehicle components (like shocks and axles)

Remember: Check your tires’ tread frequently. As soon as you notice uneven tire wear, schedule a tire alignment service.

McSpadden's Tire & Automotive offers professional wheel alignment for your vehicle. We will check your tires and align and balance them so that you have a smooth ride, getting you back out on the Austin roads in a jiffy!

During a wheel alignment service by one of our expert technicians, we’ll pinpoint exactly which angles may be out of specification and correct as necessary, ensuring your vehicle’s angles meet manufacturer specifications. The service includes:

      A computerized alignment check

Adjustments, as needed, to the caster, camber, and/or toe

      Steering wheel centering check

Inspecting suspension components for excessive wear

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Service

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System, or TPMS, monitors the air pressure and/or rotational speed of the tires to determine whether they have the correct air pressure. Most tire failures occur due to under-inflation. So, it is important to make sure that this system is working properly and to have it serviced by professionals when needed.
